Sale of Carbon Offset LPG

We have begun the sale of Carbon Offset LPG, with the aim of helping create a Carbon Offset society. Through the sale of Carbon Offset LPG, we will contribute to the global environment while further broadening our customer network.

We offer Carbon Offset LPG, which is considered to have net zero CO₂ emissions, by purchasing carbon credits certified by international NGOs and the Japanese government, with these credits offsetting the CO₂ emitted throughout the LPG lifecycle (from mining to combustion). This Carbon Offset LPG can in turn be utilized as part of our customers’ CSR and ESG initiatives.

A. Carbon credits represent emission credits that are issued to companies for reductions in CO₂ and other greenhouse gases that they have achieved through forest preservation initiatives, energy-saving technologies, adoption of renewable energy sources, and other measures.
Carbon credits are primarily traded on the open market, with other companies able to purchase credits in order to offset greenhouse gas emissions that they are unable to reduce on their own.

A. There are two main types of carbon credits: “compliance credits” issued by the United Nations and governments, and “voluntary credits” issued by the private sector, such as NGOs.
Compliance credits, such as J-credits, which are authorised by the Japanese government are expected to use for contribution to environmental regulations and policies of each country, while the latter can be utilised for various purposes regardless of environmental regulations and policies.
Although CO₂ reductions from voluntary credits are not recognized under Japanese legal frameworks such as the Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures and the Act on the Rational Use of Energy, companies can use these credits as part of their voluntary CSR and ESG efforts.

A. CO₂ emissions from our Carbon Offset LP Gas are offset by either voluntary credits or J-credits.
At present, there is no government mandated requirement to reduce CO2 emissions, and voluntary credits are the primary method of offsetting CO₂ emissions in the credit market.
As of the 1st of October 2023, we have commenced selling J-credits which can be utilised for reporting contribution to carbon-dioxide emission reduction under Japanese legal frameworks such as the Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures and the Act on the Rational Use of Energy in addition to the sale of voluntary credits.

A. We only sell Carbon Offset LPG, and do not plan to sell carbon credits on their own.
