Research and Development
Toward a Carbon Neutral Society, we are continuously conducting research and development on Green LPG.
Our Research and Development Initiatives
R&D overview
Our company is dedicated to the social implementation of carbon-recycled LPG. We are actively engaged in research and development of carbon-recycled liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), utilizing carbon dioxide (CO₂) and hydrogen (H₂) as raw materials through the Fischer–Tropsch synthesis process (hereafter referred to as "FT synthesis"※1).
※1 FT synthesis is a process that produces hydrocarbons (including LPG components) from synthesis gas composed of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H₂).
Initiatives from FY2022 to FY2024(NEDO-commissioned Project : "R&D of Carbon Recycled LP Gas Manufacturing Technology and Processes")
【Project Overview】
From fiscal year 2022 to 2024, our company carried out a commissioned project by NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) titled:
“Development of Technologies for Carbon Recycling and Next-Generation Thermal Power Generation / R&D and Demonstration Base for Carbon Recycling / R&D of Carbon Recycled LP Gas Manufacturing Technology and Processes”
(hereinafter referred to as the “NEDO Commissioned Project”).
Under this NEDO Commissioned Project, we focused on the following three core research and development areas, successfully achieving the objectives set for each:
1.Development of LPG synthesis catalyst technology
2.Study of manufacturing process
3.Consideration of social implementation model
【Implementing Organizations】
ENEOS Globe Corporation,University of Toyama ,Nippon Steel Corporation
Initiatives for FY2025 to FY2026(NEDO Subsidized Project:" R&D for Enhancing Catalyst Practicality and Improving Production Process for Carbon-Recycled LPG")
【Project Overview】
From June 2025, we have been working on a new NEDO subsidized project titled
“R&D for Enhancing Catalyst Practicality and Improving Production Process for Carbon-Recycled LPG.”
Building upon the results of our previous research, this project focuses on the following four core research and development areas:
1.Improving catalyst performance and ensuring its long-term durability
2.Developing a scalable production method for the catalyst
3.Basic design of catalyst reactors and production processes
4.Planning the construction of a bench-scale demonstration facility and outlining the domestic trial plan
【Implementing Organizations】
Grant Recipient: ENEOS Globe Corporation
Collaborating Researchers: University of Toyama, Nippon Steel Corporation
Introduction to the Research Laboratory at the Osaki-Kamijima Research Base
In February 2024, the installation of test equipment at the R&D and Demonstration Base for Carbon Recycling at Osaki-Kamijima, was completed.
On-site testing began in March 2024.
※At Osaki-Kamijima Island, Hiroshima offers companies and universities, aiming to realize a carbon-neutral and decarbonized society, hub of activity to promote their R&D activities.

LPG's Position in Japan's Carbon Neutrality Policy
LPG has been recognized as an important energy source in both normal times and emergencies due to its portability and ease of storage.
Green Growth Strategy through Achieving Carbon Neutrality in 2050(resolved by Cabinet decision in June 2021)
・Demand for LPG is forecast to remain at around 60% of current level in 2050.
・LPG synthesis technology will be developed and commercialized by 2030.
・Japan aims to meet all LPG gas demand via green LP gas by 2050.
The Seventh Strategic Energy Plan (resolved by Cabinet decision in February 2025)
・A decentralized energy source with low greenhouse gas emissions, supplied to approximately 40% of households, and easy to store and stockpile.
・Functions as a “last line of defense” during disasters, supporting hospitals and evacuation centers.
・Toward mass production of Green LPG, we aim for social implementation in the 2030s by advancing technological development such as innovative catalysts and demonstrating production processes.
